We built our Coaching for Managers Workshop from the ground up based on the latest evidence-based research, but with a focus on the practical tools and techniques managers need.

Modular Approach

Our Coaching for Managers course is split into three parts. Each section equips managers with the essential tools and techniques they need to coach effectively.

Part 1

Defining Coaching using the GROW Model

Managers will learn how to develop good coaching skills.

Part 2

Effective Listening and Providing Feedback

 Managers will learn the importance of listening, questioning and feedback skills.

Part 3

Creating a Plan of Action

Managers will apply their learning and practice their skills to become a confident coach.

  • 1. Defining Coaching using the GROW Model

    In this first session, managers will learn the fundamental goal behind coaching is that each individual will be capable of owning and solving their own problems. Managers will learn to develop good coaching skills by:
    1. Establishing whether coaching is the most appropriate method to aid learning;
    2. Leaning to use the GROW model to conduct effective coaching sessions;
    3. Observing examples of effective coaching sessions.
    By learning the principles of effective coaching, managers begin to develop important skills for supporting their staff.

  • 2. Effective Listening and Providing Feedback

    Coaches are good at gathering information and then clarifying it for the person being coached. It is important to have strong listening skills, including active listening by:
    1. Understanding the importance of questioning in helping individuals develop;
    2. Applying questioning techniques to encourage individuals to reflect and apply their learning;
    3. Giving effective feedback to encourage improvement.
    Managers are given the opportunity to practice questioning and demonstrate active listening, and provide effective feedback to a fellow participant.

  • 3. Creating a Plan of Action

    Excellent coaching takes practice, and delegates have the opportunity now to apply their learning and being honing their skills. Delegates build confidence by:
    1. Preparing a coaching session and creating examples of questions to be used;
    2. Practising coaching, observation and giving feedback on a specific work issue;
    3. Creating an action plan of activities for return to the workplace.
    Each manager will have had an opportunity to be coached on their issue, observe others and practise giving feedback.
