Was a very informative course that has helped to maybe see the signs of someone struggling and how to approach this.

Content was very relevant to the course with more areas covered in detail in the booklet for us to read afterwards. Trainer was very good - unphased by any questions that were asked. Good mix of interaction, video and explanation. Very good course - can't believe how quickly it passed!

Modular Approach

Our Mental Health for Managers course is split into three one-hour modules. Each one equips managers with the essential tools and techniques they need to deal with an important mental health workplace issue.

Hour 1

Making the Business Case for Mental Health

Understanding the three business reasons successful managers make the mental health of their team a top priority.

Hour 2

Changing Attitudes and Confronting Stigma

Recognising thoughts and feelings that make up stigma and discrimination and challenging negative beliefs.

Hour 3

Structuring a Conversation About Mental Health

Using the ALRIGHT technique to structure a conversation about mental health appropriately in the workplace.

Optimised Learning Outcomes

We work hard to ensure our Mental Health for Managers Workshop is the most useful and business-focussed course there is. We never stop learning from your feedback so our learning outcomes are the most practical and relevant they can be.

  • 1. Making the Business Case for Mental Health

    There are three reasons successful businesses make the mental health of their employees a top priority. In the first session managers learn the benefits of:
    1. Proactively raising awareness of mental health issues to create a culture of resilience in their team;
    2. Understanding the moral obligations of creating an ethical working environment in a changing society;
    3. Compliance with employer responsibilities and employee rights within the UK legal framework.
    A proactive approach to mental health in the workplace is the best way of reducing absence, decreasing presenteeism and improving productivity.

  • 2. Changing Attitudes and Confronting Stigma

    In this second session, managers learn to recognise the thoughts and feelings that make up stigma and discrimination, and how to challenge negative stereotypes and beliefs by:
    1. Exploring different meanings of ‘mental health’ and how the concept applies to us all;
    2. Understanding mental health as a continuum that runs from illness to wellness and beyond;
    3. Applying the biopsychosocial model to understand the factors that make up mental health.
    Knowing how and why attitudes towards mental health are changing will empower managers to change attitudes within your organisation.

  • 3. Structuring a Conversation About Mental Health

    In this final session, managers will be equipped with the necessary skills to structure a conversation about mental health in the workplace. They will learn to:
    1. Recognise and deal appropriately with the signs and symptoms of a variety of mental health conditions;
    2. Follow the proven ALRIGHT framework to make successful interventions with staff in need of help;
    3. Put this framework into action using emotionally intelligent body language and listening skills.
    Managers will have a greater awareness and confidence of when and how to make appropriate interventions with their staff.
